The Family of Legendary Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown Releases Official Statement

“The Brown family has made the difficult decision to withdraw our support for Chuck Brown Day, which we notified DPR of on Feb 3rd of this year. After three years of being marginalized in both the planning process and the overall direction of the event, we no longer believe the event reflects the level of collaboration, respect, and stewardship that Chuck Brown’s legacy deserves.

Accordingly, the Brown family does not support the continuation of Chuck Brown Day under its current leadership. We would only consider supporting the event if new project leadership and direction are established to ensure that the family’s role as the guardians of Chuck Brown’s legacy is respected and that our input, concerns, and wishes are meaningfully incorporated into all aspects of the event.

We cannot continue to allow the organizer’s ongoing lack of communication, professionalism, and failure to adhere to agreed-upon contractual obligations and established guidelines to create the impression that the Brown family endorses the event or its management.
